February is Volunteer Appreciation Month at NYRR. We asked several loyal NYRR volunteers what keeps them coming back to the TCS New York City Marathon every year.
Volunteers from the U.S. Department of State's Exchange Visitor Program turn out in force each year to provide hydration and support to TCS New York City Marathon participants.
We do not have a wait list for volunteer opportunities. If there is a specific race at which you would like to volunteer check the Volunteer Opportunities page early in race week. We send out a reminder email to volunteers 7 - 10 days before an event and that email normally generates cancellations. When people cancel those opportunities will reappear on the website for registration.

Runners that register for and complete six NYRR virtual races at the NYRR Virtual 6 program rate between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025 will be eligible to receive one non-complimentary guaranteed entry to the 2026 RBC Brooklyn Half.
The 9+1 program allows NYRR members who meet eligibility requirements to earn guaranteed entry to the TCS New York City Marathon! Runners completing their 9+1 program toward the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon must have their nine races and one volunteer opportunity completed by December 31, 2025.
