DISCOVER ALL OF RISING NEW YORK ROAD RUNNERSThe Long Run and the Decade That Made the Marathon Cool
In his most recently published book "The Long Run," Martin Dugard explores the history of the marathon and the transformative 1970s, including the birth of the 5-boro New York City Marathon course in 1976. He recounts how the idea emerged from a Bicentennial celebration concept championed by George Spitz and was shaped by Ted Corbitt’s vision.
Dickie Reinicke: “I'm So Proud to Be Among Other Really Great Nonbinary Runners”
To continue our celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride Month we’re spotlighting nonbinary runner Dickie Reinicke, who ran their first NYRR race in the nonbinary division at the RBC Brooklyn Half and won in 1:18:17. Dickie moved to New York a year and a half ago and joined Brooklyn Track Club as a way to meet people and get integrated into the NYC running community.
Citizens Queens 10K Continues NYRR's Impact in Queens
The Citizens Queens 10K takes place in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, the borough’s largest park, with a course giving runners views of the Unisphere, Citi Field, and the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The race is the third event in the 2026 NYRR Five-Borough Series, and this is the third year Citizens, the Official Bank of NYRR, is the title sponsor.
Gordon Bakoulis: "I Feel Like I've Always Been a Runner"
With the 54th running of the largest-ever Mastercard New York Mini 10K last weekend and the 54th anniversary of Title IX on June 23, we are highlighting a local NYC legendary figure in women's running—Gordon Bakoulis. Gordon qualified for the Olympic marathon trials in 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004 and was a finalist in the 1992 U.S. Olympic 10,000m trials. She's also the editorial director for New York Road Runners and has worked at NYRR for over 25 years.
