Set the Pace: How ADA Hero Deborah McFadden Paved the Way for Disability Equality

Joining the show this week is Deborah McFadden, a trailblazer in disability rights who played a key role in passing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Deborah became determined to fight for disability equality and was later appointed U.S. Commissioner of Disabilities under President George H.W. Bush. The ADA transformed public life by mandating curb cuts, ramps, accessible restrooms, and equal access to education and employment. She's the mother of Paralympic athletes Tatyana and Hannah McFadden.

EJ Baker Finds Acceptance and Affirmation as a Nonbinary Runner

EJ Baker hopes to bring more visibility to the importance of having a nonbinary division in running. While EJ enjoyed other sports such as roller derby and competitive body building, they found that running gave them confidence in their own strength that other sports hadn’t, and having the opportunity to run in their own division was affirming. The film highlights the incredible journeys of the back-of-the-pack runners—whose stories of grit and determination embody the spirit of what it takes to run 26.2 miles.
