Open Division

Amounts are equal for men and women. Only athletes competing in the Professional/Invited Athlete start are eligible for Open Division prize money; finish order is based on Gun Time.

NYRR Member Division

All prize money amounts are equal for men, women, and nonbinary categories and subject to all applicable rules and policies regarding prize money. To be eligible for NYRR Member Division prize money, an athlete must have been a NYRR member since at least December 15, 2025. In the men’s and women’s categories, priority will be given to athletes who start in the Professional/Invited Athlete start, with finish order based on Gun Time. If applicable, athletes in the “mass start” will be eligible for remaining prize money positions, with finish order based on Net Time. Athletes competing in the Non-Binary category may start in the “mass start,” with prize money positions determined by Net Time. To be eligible for prize money in the Non-binary category, an athlete must have identified as non-binary at the time of registration.

Pushrim Wheelchair Division

To be eligible for Wheelchair Division prize money, athletes must start in the Invitational Wheelchair Division start.

2026 Run as One 4M Presented by JPMorgan Chase

To be eligible for all prize money categories, including team money, a runner must have had a valid paid NYRR membership since at least January 12, 2026 through at least the date of the race, and must complete the course in 28 minutes or less.

NYRR Member Top Borough Finisher (net time)

The top man, woman, and nonbinary finisher from each borough, based on Net Time, who meet the NYRR Member Division requirements will be awarded $250. Residency is determined by zip code at the time of registration. No double-dipping allowed—a runner can earn prize money from one category (either Individual Prize Money or Top Borough Finisher prize money), only. If a runner qualifies for prize money in multiple categories, only the highest amount will be paid.

NYRR Member Division Team Prize Money (net time)

Team prize money amounts are equal for men, women, and nonbinary categories. For scoring purposes, a men’s team must consist of five men, a women’s team must consist of five women, and a nonbinary team must consist of three nonbinary athletes, all running with the same team affiliation. All scoring members must meet the eligibility requirements for NYRR Member Division prize money outlined above. Team prize money is based on the cumulative Net Time of the team members.

Prize Money for Invited Professional Athletes

Open Division

USA Division

To be eligible for USA Division prize money, athletes must provide proof of USA citizenship, preferably a passport. Includes athletes from USA territories like Puerto Rico, Guam, and the US Virgin Islands. Only women starting as part of the Professional Athlete early start will be eligible for prize money in the USA Division category.

Wheelchair Division

Prize money amounts are for women, only. All prize money divisions are determined by Gun Time. Only women starting in the Professional Wheelchair athlete start will be eligible for prize money in the Wheelchair Division category.

Prize Money for NYRR Member Division

Prize money amounts are for women, only. To be eligible for prize money in the NYRR Member Division, a runner must have had a valid paid NYRR membership since at least March 6, 2026 through at least the date of the race. Cumulative with prize money in the Open Division and USA Division, if applicable. Priority for NYRR Member Division prize money will be given to women who meet the NYRR Member Division requirements who start as part of the Professional Athlete early start and will be based on order of finish as determined by Gun Time. Remaining spots, if applicable, will be paid out of the Mass Participation start, based on Net Time.

As a World Athletics Label race, the New Balance 5th Avenue Mile operates under World Athletics rules and is subject to all applicable rules and policies regarding prize money. Prize money is available in the Professional Athlete and NYRR Road Mile Championships heats, only. Entry into these heats is by invitation only; no entrant will be automatically placed in these heats. The minimum standards for inclusion in the NYRR Road Mile Championships are 4:20 for men, 4:55 for women, and 4:55 for non-binary categories. For a gender category to have a NYRR Road Mile Championships heat, a minimum of five entrants with the qualifying standard are required prior to August 21, 2026. For consideration, contact eliteathletes@nyrr.org no later than that date.

Halfway Leader Bonus: $1000 will be awarded to the halfway leader in the Professional Athlete heats. If they do not, the bonus will be awarded to the next-fastest runner at halfway who does break the above standards.

Prize Money for Invited Professional Athletes

Open Division

USA Division

Amounts are equal for men and women. To be eligible for USA Division prize money, athletes must 1) have USA citizenship, and 2) not be eligible to represent another federation in international competition. Only athletes competing in the Professional/Invited Athlete start are eligible for USA Division prize money; finish order is based on Gun Time. USA Division prize money is cumulative with Open Division, NYRR Member Division, and Masters Division, if applicable.

Masters Division

Only athletes 40 years of age or older competing in the Professional/Invited Athlete start are eligible for Masters Division prize money; finish order is based on Gun Time. Cumulative with Open Division, USA Division, and NYRR Member Division amounts, if applicable.

Wheelchair Division

To be eligible for Wheelchair Division prize money, athletes must start in the Invitational Wheelchair Division start.

Time Bonuses: Open and Wheelchair Division

New York Road Runners will pay a $50,000 bonus to the Open Division and/or Wheelchair Division race winners who break the existing event record, based on Gun Time. This bonus is limited to the race winners, only, and the athlete must break, not tie, the record:

Prize Money for NYRR Member Division

Amounts are equal for men, women, and nonbinary categories. To be eligible for NYRR Member Division prize money, including time bonuses and team prize money, an athlete must have had a valid paid NYRR membership since at least May 1, 2026 through at least the date of the race, and have completed six fully-scored NYRR races during the period of November 3, 2025, and October 25, 2026. NYRR Virtual races do not count towards this six-race requirement. Athletes who meet the NYRR Member Division requirements and start in the Professional/Invited Athlete start will receive priority for NYRR Member Division prize money, with finish order based on Gun Time. Additional prize money positions, if applicable, will be filled from the other race starts, based on Net Time.
