New York Road Runners is committed to supporting professional, elite, and local elite athletes by offering prize money at select races. Below is the prize money structure for upcoming races. Athletes must meet eligibility criteria in order to receive prize money. For more information on NYRR's Prize Money Policies, click here.
NYRR Fred Lebow Half Marathon

To be eligible for prize money and time bonuses, a runner must have had a valid paid NYRR membership since at least three months prior to race day, including the date of the race, and must complete the course in 1 hour, 30 minutes or less.

The top man, woman, and non binary finisher from each borough, based on Net Time, who meet the NYRR Member Division requirements will be awarded $250. Residency is determined by zip code at the time of registration. No double-dipping allowed—a runner can earn prize money from one category (either Individual Prize Money or Top Borough Finisher prize money), only. If a runner qualifies for prize money in multiple categories, only the highest amount will be paid.
NYRR Member Division Team Prize Money (net time)
Team prize money amounts are equal for men, women, and non binary categories. For scoring purposes, a men’s team must consist of five men, a women’s team must consist of five women, and a non binary team must consist of three non binary athletes, all running with the same team affiliation. All scoring members must meet the eligibility requirements for NYRR Member Division prize money outlined above. Team prize money is based on the cumulative Net Time of the team members.

New Balance 5th Avenue Mile

As a World Athletics Label race, the New Balance 5th Avenue Mile operates under World Athletics rules and is subject to all applicable rules and policies regarding prize money. Prize money is available in the Professional Athlete and NYRR Road Mile Championships heats, only. Entry into these heats is by invitation only; no entrant will be automatically placed in these heats. The minimum standards for inclusion in the NYRR Road Mile Championships are 4:20 for men, 4:55 for women, and 4:55 for non binary categories. For a gender category to have a NYRR Road Mile Championships heat, a minimum of five entrants with the qualifying standard are required prior to August 15, 2025. For consideration, contact eliteathletes@nyrr.org no later than that date.

To collect this bonus, the halfway leader must finish the race in under 4:00 (men) or 4:32 (women). If they do not, the bonus will be awarded to the next-fastest runner at halfway who does break the above standards.

Prize Money for NYRR Member Division
Amounts are equal for men, women, and non binary categories. To be eligible for NYRR Member Division prize money, including time bonuses and team prize money, an athlete must have had a valid paid NYRR membership since at least May 2, 2025 through at least the date of the race, and have completed six fully-scored NYRR races during the period of November 4, 2024, and October 31, 2025. NYRR Virtual races do not count towards this six-race requirement. Athletes who meet the NYRR Member Division requirements and start in the Professional/Invited Athlete start will receive priority for NYRR Member Division prize money. Additional prize money positions, if applicable, will be filled from the other race starts, based on Net Time.

For scoring purposes, a men’s team must consist of three men, a women’s team must consist of three women, and a non binary team must consist of three non binary athletes, all running with the same team affiliation. All scoring members must meet the eligibility requirements for NYRR Member Division prize money outlined above. Team prize money is based on the cumulative Net Time of the team members.

Time Bonuses: NYRR Member Division
Each runner who meets the NYRR Member Division requirements and completes the course under one of the times below, based on Net Time, will be awarded the bonus listed below. Each runner is eligible for only one time bonus—the runner will receive only the highest bonus for which the runner’s time is eligible. The time bonus is cumulative with prize money listed above.
