New York Road Runners is committed to supporting professional, elite, and local elite athletes by offering prize money at select races. Below is the prize money structure for upcoming races. NYRR Member Division
All prize money amounts are equal for men, women, and nonbinary categories and subject to all applicable rules and policies regarding prize money. To be eligible for prize money, a runner must have had a valid paid NYRR membership since at least three months prior to race day (October 10, 2025) through at least the date of the race, and must complete the course in 42 minutes or less. If applicable, athletes in the “mass start” will be eligible for remaining prize money positions, with finish order based on Net Time. Athletes competing in the Non-Binary category may start in the “mass start,” with prize money positions determined by Net Time. To be eligible for prize money in the Non-binary category, an athlete must have identified as non-binary at the time of registration.

NYRR Member Top Borough Finisher (net time)
The top man, woman, and nonbinary finisher from each borough, based on Net Time, who meet the NYRR Member Division requirements will be awarded $250. Residency is determined by zip code at the time of registration. No double-dipping allowed—a runner can earn prize money from one category (either Individual Prize Money or Top Borough Finisher prize money), only. If a runner qualifies for prize money in multiple categories, only the highest amount will be paid.
NYRR Member Division Team Prize Money (net time)
Team prize money amounts are equal for men, women, and nonbinary categories. For scoring purposes, a men’s team must consist of five men, a women’s team must consist of five women, and a nonbinary team must consist of three nonbinary athletes, all running with the same team affiliation. All scoring members must meet the eligibility requirements for NYRR Member Division prize money outlined above. Team prize money is based on the cumulative Net Time of the team members.

2026 New Balance 5th Avenue Mile

As a World Athletics Label race, the New Balance 5th Avenue Mile operates under World Athletics rules and is subject to all applicable rules and policies regarding prize money. Prize money is available in the Professional Athlete and NYRR Road Mile Championships heats, only. Entry into these heats is by invitation only; no entrant will be automatically placed in these heats. The minimum standards for inclusion in the NYRR Road Mile Championships are 4:20 for men, 4:55 for women, and 4:55 for non-binary categories. For a gender category to have a NYRR Road Mile Championships heat, a minimum of five entrants with the qualifying standard are required prior to August 21, 2026. For consideration, contact eliteathletes@nyrr.org no later than that date.

NYRR Virtual races do not count towards this six-race requirement. Athletes who meet the NYRR Member Division requirements and start in the Professional/Invited Athlete start will receive priority for NYRR Member Division prize money, with finish order based on Gun Time. Additional prize money positions, if applicable, will be filled from the other race starts, based on Net Time.
