An Interview with Runna Co-Founder and Head Coach Ben Parker

We sat down with Runna co-founder and head coach Ben Parker to learn more about Runna’s origins and Ben’s passions for running, coaching, chocolate Weetabix, and more.
Can you tell us briefly how Runna came to be and your inspiration for starting the platform?
Runna was born from a desire to make amazing running coaching accessible to everyone—to make the world a happier and healthier place through running. I’ve always been passionate about running and coaching. Dom, one of my best friends (and our co-founder and CEO), and I noticed a gap in the market for an automated and therefore more affordable way to deliver the coaching I was doing previously while serving runners of all levels.
The inspiration came from our own experiences and the challenges we saw runners facing, whether they were beginners or seasoned marathoners. We wanted to create a platform that could offer the same level of support and guidance as a personal coach but in a more accessible and affordable way. And thus, Runna was born!
Who is Runna for? Can a first-time marathoner or someone new to running benefit from it?
Runna is for everyone, regardless of their running experience. Our plans are designed to be flexible, so they can meet you where you are in your running journey and help you reach your goals. The support and community features also provide motivation and encouragement, which are crucial for new runners.

How do you view the role of community in a runner's preparation for race day?
Community, whether in-person or virtual, plays a vital role in a runner’s preparation for race day. The sense of belonging, shared goals, and mutual encouragement can keep runners motivated, accountable, and inspired. At Runna, we emphasize building a strong community where runners can connect, share their challenges and triumphs, and support each other throughout their training journeys. This communal aspect often makes the difference between merely completing a race and truly enjoying the process.

Any words of inspiration for first-time marathoners?
Remember that the journey is just as important as race day. Training for a marathon is an incredible experience that will test your limits and teach you a lot about yourself. Stay patient, trust the process, and don’t be afraid to listen to your body. Celebrate the small victories along the way and remember that every step you take brings you closer to your goal. Believe in yourself, stay consistent, and enjoy the ride. You’ve got this!
What’s your favorite pre-race meal?
My favorite pre-race meal is chocolate Weetabix - a healthy serving alongside full semi-skimmed milk, with a coffee. I try to eat 2–3 hours before the race.
Who inspires you and why?
I draw a lot of inspiration from Eliud Kipchoge. His dedication, discipline, and humble approach to running are truly inspiring. His mantra, “No human is limited,” resonates deeply with me and reminds me that with the right mindset, and some chocolate Weetabix, we can achieve incredible things.
