Liz Healy Will Be Grateful for Every Mile on November 2

Team Inspire member Liz Healy at the TCS New York City Marathon

In 2022, Liz Healy was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer and stage 2 kidney cancer while she was hospitalized following a skiing accident. She saw several doctors before going to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) seeking answers and eventual treatment. They were the first to properly diagnose both cancers and provide treatment that saved her life.

Liz ran the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon for Fred’s Team, raising funds and awareness in the fight against cancer. She’s returned to run again every year since and will be running for the fourth time this year.

She runs the marathon to show her gratitude for MSK and to fund the cancer research that her life depends on. She has recruited a growing number of friends, nurses, and fellow patients, and this year 19 members of “Team Check Your Colon” will run with her. They are aiming to raise a collective $100,000 for Fred’s Team.

The cancer has since spread to her brain. She is still fighting and undergoing chemotherapy and has had several surgeries and treatments.

A lifelong New Yorker, Liz has always considered the marathon the best day of the year in the best city. Having cancer has made her truly appreciate running and her ability to keep moving, and on November 2 she will enjoy every step, every neighborhood, and every interaction with spectators and other runners along the way.

“As a current stage 4 colorectal cancer patient at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, I am so honored to be part of Team Inspire and represent the best sporting event in the world in the best city by running with Fred’s Team,” said Liz. “I decided to turn my pain into purpose and my movement into medicine by participating in the TCS New York City Marathon year after year to raise awareness for colorectal cancer and to raise critical funds for cancer research at the hospital that is saving my life!”
