New York, September 9, 2025 – New York Road Runners (NYRR), the nonprofit that “runs” New York City producing 60 annual adult and youth races including the TCS New York City Marathon, will host more than 12,500 runners Sunday, September 14, at the sold-out 2025 New Balance Bronx 10 Mile, as well as hundreds of youth in the accompanying Boogie Down Kids Run.
Since the organization’s founding in 1958 at Macombs Dam Park in the Bronx, New York Road Runners has grown into a leading nonprofit that builds healthier lives and stronger communities through the transformative power of running. To honor these roots, the New Balance Bronx 10 Mile takes runners on a 10-mile tour of the culturally rich borough—beginning at Grand Concourse, heading north to Mosholu Parkway, and finishing near Yankee Stadium and Joseph Yancey Track.
The race is the nonprofit’s premier running event in the borough and is the fifth of six races in New York Road Runners’ Five-Borough Series—a showcase of the organization’s commitment to the individuals and communities in each borough with borough-specific races that also include the NYRR Manhattan 10K in February, the United Airlines NYC Half in March, the RBC Brooklyn Half in May, the Citizens Queens 10K in June, and the NYRR Staten Island Half on October 12. The event began as the Bronx Half Marathon in 1995. New Balance has been the event title sponsor since 2016 and is New York Road Runners’ Official Athletic Footwear and apparel partner.
“The New Balance Bronx 10 Mile is a celebration of our origin story and of the borough’s energy and resilience, and we’re proud to continue to bring runners together on this iconic course,” said Rob Simmelkjaer, New York Road Runners CEO. “This event continues our commitment to supporting the birthplace of New York Road Runners and the Bronx community with accessible opportunities to move, race, and connect through running.“
“Both New York Road Runners and I have roots in the Bronx and it is great witnessing the growth of running in the borough,” said Ted Metellus, New York Road Runners Chief Event Production Officer and Race Director. “The New Balance Bronx 10 Mile showcases the legacy and spirit of this borough, welcoming participants of all backgrounds and abilities to share in the flavor of the Bronx, while also serving as an important milestone for runners training for the TCS New York City Marathon.”
Notable and Inspiring Runners
This year’s race will feature several notable, inspiring, and local Bronx runners, including:
- Gregory Gourdet (50): Powerhouse chef with accolades including three-time James Beard Award winner, bestselling author, Top Chef fan-favorite, and culinary director at Printemps New York. Gourdet will run the New Balance Bronx 10 Mile as part of a fall running journey that also includes the NYRR Staten Island Half and the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon.
- Karina Jorge (43) and Fanny Greene (44): Bronx natives and moms, the duo are longtime friends from junior high school who reconnected at the 2024 New Balance Bronx 10 Mile. They both see running as much needed “me time,” allowing them to recharge to better show up for their growing families. The New Balance Bronx 10 Mile provides a great opportunity for them to reconnect with old friends and their hometown roots.
- Carlos Rosario (46): A special education teacher who recently undertook a major weight loss journey—shedding 280 pounds in two years thanks to daily walks and runs. Rosario continues to run to stay fit and to keep diabetes at bay.
Pre-Race Shakeout at St. Mary's Park Open Run
To get more people in the borough moving more often, New York Road Runners will host a free pre-race shakeout run at its St. Mary’s Park Open Run site Saturday, September 13, at 9:00 a.m. ahead of the New Balance Bronx 10 Mile. The 2.75-mile fun run-walk is open to runners and walkers of all speeds, abilities, and ages. Participants will meet at East 149th Street, between St. Ann’s Avenue and Eagle Avenue, in the Bronx.
Boogie Down Kids Run
In addition to the adult race, New York Road Runners will host the second-annual Boogie Down Kids Run—a free youth event for hundreds of kids ages 2 to 18.
This event is one of more than 20 free Rising New York Road Runners youth events the nonprofit hosts throughout the year, offering fun and rewarding experiences that encourage kids to be physically active and build their confidence to cross any finish line. Participants will include members of Rising New York Road Runners, the nonprofit's free running-based youth program that serves 200,000 students nationwide, including 100,000 students in New York City.
In addition to the youth races and dashes, kids can enjoy the race-day festival in Joyce Kilmer Park, featuring field day games and activities.
Post-Race Festival
This year, New York Road Runners will offer an expanded post-race festival, taking place beneath the 161th Street-Yankee Stadium train station, to celebrate Bronx 10 Mile finishers. The festival will feature a New Balance activation that includes branded photo moments and opportunities to connect with local Bronx Burners Run Club; a CookUnity food truck with free samples for race participants; a live cover band; family-friendly games and activities; opportunities to engage with local bars and restaurants, and more.
