New York Road Runners to launch expanded podcast content

with long-form narrative five-part series summer 2025

New York, April 10, 2025 — Nonprofit New York Road Runners (NYRR), which produces 60 annual adult and youth races including the TCS New York City Marathon, today released the 100th episode of its NYRR Set the Pace Presented by Peloton podcast, available to stream now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and iHeart Radio.

"We created the NYRR Set the Pace podcast with a goal of showcasing the transformative power of running—as a force for personal growth and community connection,” says Rob Simmelkjaer, CEO of New York Road Runners. “Over our 100 episodes, we’ve shared powerful stories that highlight the positive impact of running, and we hope the podcast has encouraged more people to take that first step or continue their running journey. We’re incredibly excited for the future of NYRR Set the Pace as we aim to tell more stories that inspire action.”

To celebrate the 100th episode, New York Road Runners hosted a live podcast recording at The Public Theater in New York Tuesday, April 8. The episode features a conversation with podcast co-hosts Simmelkjaer and Peloton Instructor Becs Gentry, and special guest Meb Keflezighi, former NYRR Set the Pace co-host, Olympic medalist, and New York City Marathon champion.

In the episode, Keflezighi discusses the importance of New York Road Runners and the TCS New York City Marathon to his historic career, saying, “New York Road Runners has been a big part of my life ... I was 42 years old when I retired from competitive [running] ... and [the] New York City Marathon ... was my last marathon. New York gave me all the opportunities, taught me a lot of lessons [on] what to do, what not to do.

The episode also celebrated Global Volunteer Month, which takes place each April, with the Member Moment segment highlighting longtime New York Road Runners volunteer Janelle Hartman, who is a volunteer leader, a volunteer captain for NYRR’s Astoria Park Open Run, and a recipient of the Presidential Service Award for volunteering at least 100 hours per calendar year.

NYRR Set the Pace will expand into new formats in the coming months, including long-form narrative podcasts starting with a five-episode series, titled “NYRR Set the Pace Presents: A Life Worth Living,” that will be released this summer. The series will spotlight the story of acute leukemia survivor Peter Kirk, who has run more than 250 half marathons with a goal of running 1,000 by 2031, the 10th anniversary of his stem cell transplant. NYRR Set the Pace also recently aired a two-hour guided run podcast designed to serve as a training companion as runners prepare for spring marathons and will launch video podcasts this summer.

Launched in September 2023, NYRR Set the Pace connects the running community and inspires runners through conversations with everyday enthusiasts and professional athletes sharing stories of perseverance, drive, and dedication. To date, the podcast has garnered nearly a quarter of a million total downloads. With new episodes dropping every Thursday, top NYRR Set the Pace podcasts include:
