TCS New York City Marathon Kids Kickoff

As the official start to race week, the TCS New York City Marathon Kids Kickoff in Central Park will feature 2,500 youth ages 2 to 18 in the marathon’s youth race. Before more than 55,000 athletes of all ages and paces traverse the five boroughs for the TCS New York City Marathon, the next generation of runners will participate in races and dashes of varying distances, games, and activities for the whole family. The TCS New York City Marathon Kids Kickoff is one of 20 free youth events New York Road Runners hosts throughout the year.

The ceremonial painting of the blue line that traces the 26.2-mile course of the TCS New York City Marathon through all five boroughs. The event recognizes NYRR’s city agency partners.

2025 Rising New York Road Runners Shoe Distribution

New York Road Runners distributes free New Balance running shoes to more than 400 elementary school and middle school-aged Rising New York Road Runners from across the five boroughs as they begin their running seasons. Since 2017, Rising New York Road Runners and New Balance have distributed more than 47,000 free pairs of shoes to students at more than 1,000 underserved schools and community centers.

TCS New York City Marathon Plogging Shakeout Featuring NYRR Team for Climate

Members of NYRR Team for Climate—TCS New York City Marathon runners who are fundraising to support New York Road Runners’ sustainability and net-zero goals—meet for a plogging event. Plogging is a combination of “jogging” and “plocka upp,” the Swedish term for “picking up.”  

TCS New York City Marathon Opening Ceremony Presented by United Airlines

Thousands of runners from around the world – including participants from New York Road Runners’ community programs and local run clubs – parade across the TCS New York City Marathon finish line to kick off race weekend with a celebration that includes the 2025 NYRR Hall of Fame inductees. The 26 members of Team Inspire—a diverse group of athletes with the most compelling stories at the TCS New York City Marathon—will be available for interviews.

A professional field will be joined by thousands of runners of all ages from around the world in a race through Midtown, from the United Nations on East 42nd Street to the finish line of the TCS New York City Marathon in Central Park. The race also serves as the 2025 USATF Youth 5K Championships.
