Vivian Cheruiyot
Vivian Cheruiyot will return to the TCS New York City Marathon for the first time since finishing as the runner-up in her race debut in 2018.
She is a four-time Olympic and five-time world championships medalist on the track and owns a world cross country title and gold from the Commonwealth Games. At the World Athletics Championships, she won gold in the 5,000 meters in 2009 and 2011, and the 10,000 meters in 2011 and 2015. She has competed in four Olympics, capturing silver in the 5,000 and bronze in the 10,000 at the London 2012 Games before winning gold in the 5,000 one week after taking silver in the 10,000 at the Rio 2016 Games. Her time of 29:32.53 in the 10,000 meters was less than one second behind the previous world record.
Shortly after switching to the roads, Cheruiyot won 2018 London Marathon on a hot day just a year after making her marathon debut there with a fourth-place finish in 2017. She also finished as runner-up at the 2019 London Marathon and won the 2017 Frankfurt Marathon. She was third at the Paris Marathon this April.
