Mohammed Ahmed
Moh Ahmed is a four-time Olympian and one of Canada’s most decorated and prolific long-distance runners. He will be making his highly-anticipated half marathon debut. He became the first Canadian to medal in the 5,000 meters at both the World Athletics Championships (bronze in 2019) and the Olympics (silver in 2021). Before securing silver, he was sixth in the 10,000 meters at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the best finish by a Canadian in that Olympic event since 1912. Ahmed’s historic World Championships bronze was Canada’s first-ever world championships medal in a long-distance track event. At the same games, he became the first Canadian to run sub-27 minutes in the 10,000 minutes.
Ahmed is also a two-time silver medalist at the Commonwealth Games in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters and was the 2015 Pan American champion in the 10,000 meters.
Born in Somalia, Ahmed moved to Kenya and then immigrated to Canada at 11 years old. He started running track at 13 after seeing his brothers take up the sport. He went on to attend the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he was a seven-time All-American.
