Geert Schipper

Geert Schipper Netherlands

Geert Schipper set the United Airlines NYC Half course record in his race debut in 2024, crossing the line in a personal best of 48:43. By successfully defending his title in 2025, he became just the third man to win the race’s wheelchair division multiple times. A win would place him second all-time behind Ernst van Dyk who won the race four consecutive years from 2015–2018.

Schipper is a distinguished Dutch paratriathlete and wheelchair racer. A three-time Paralympian, Schipper earned a silver medal in the paratriathlon at the 2016 Rio Paralympics and a bronze at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

Schipper began competing in paratriathlon in 2013, and since then has also taken up wheelchair racing and paracycling. In 2022 he made his marathon debut in Paris, finishing in second place. He followed that up with victories at the 2023 Cape Town Marathon, the 2024 United Airlines NYC Half, and the 2024 Paris Marathon, showing his growing dominance in the distance.

Schipper suffered a spinal-cord injury in a flying accident in 2004. He has become an advocate for athletes with disabilities, founding Sportisleven, an organization that organizes sports clinics and adventure trips for people with a disability.
