Galen Rupp is one of the greatest American distance runners of all time with two Olympic medals and three Abbott World Marathon Majors podium appearances to his name. He competed in the Beijing, London, Rio, and Tokyo Olympic Games, winning silver in the 10,000 meters in London and bronze in the marathon in Rio. He finished eighth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Marathon after winning the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. He is also an eight-time U.S. champion in the 10,000 meters and has represented Team USA at six outdoor and three indoor World Championships. He was the top American finisher in both the men’s marathon at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in his home state of Oregon and the 2025 Philadelphia Distance Run.

In 2017, six months after finishing as the runner-up at the Boston Marathon, Rupp became the first American man in 15 years to win the Chicago Marathon and first American-born man to win the race in 35 years with a time of 2:09:20. The following year, won the Prague Marathon in a still-standing personal best 2:06:07. Rupp nearly matched his marathon personal best in 2021 when he placed second in the Chicago Marathon in 2:06:35.

In recent years he has turned to commentary and was part of the broadcast talent team at the 2024 and 2025 TCS New York City Marathon, providing expert analysis and insight.

Originally a soccer player, Rupp was recruited to run track and cross country in high school, going on to win three Oregon state titles on the track and two in cross country. He then competed for the University of Oregon, where he became a 14-time NCAA All American, won five individual championships, and became the first person ever to win six NCAA distance races in the same calendar year. Rupp and his wife, Keara, have four children together, including twins who were born in 2014.
