Eliud Kipchoge
Eliud Kipchoge, widely regarded as the greatest marathoner of all time, is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, former world record holder, and the first person to break two hours in the marathon.
He will run the TCS New York City Marathon for the first time, marking the completion of all seven Abbott World Marathon Majors. In late August, Kipchoge ran the Sydney Marathon, finishing in a time of 2:08:31.
The Kenyan athlete, who won his first Abbott World Marathon Major at the 2014 Chicago Marathon, went on to win 10 additional titles, including five at the Berlin Marathon, four in London, and one in Tokyo.
In 2019 Kipchoge defied what was possible, running 1:59:40 in Vienna as part of the INEOS 1:59 Challenge.
He has had a long and illustrious career, becoming the world champion in the 5,000 meters at the 2003 World Athletics Championships at the age of 18. He is the third man in history to win back-to-back Olympic marathon titles at the Rion 2016, and Tokyo Olympic Games. In the latter event he won by 80 seconds.
Kipchoge was raised on a farm, usually riding his bike to Kapsabet, a town in Kenya where he sold the family’s milk at the local market.
