Cynthia Limo
Cynthia Limo is best known on the roads for winning a silver medal in the half marathon at the 2016 World Athletics Championships. She’s raced twice previously with NYRR, winning the 2016 UAE Healthy Kidney 10K and finishing sixth at the 2023 Mastercard New York Mini 10K.
Limo has raced competitively on the roads since 2009, and in 2015 was deemed elite after cracking the top three at the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon in a time that put her in the top five in the world that year. From 2012 through 2016, she finished in first or second in 43 of the 51 races she competed in before stepping away from the roads to have a family. Limo went on to give birth to three daughters – Blessed, Ann, and Rebekah. Blessed was born with a spinal birth defect and passed away before her second birthday. Limo was depressed for the next two years following her tragic passing.
In 2023, Limo decided to get back in shape and return to the roads after a seven-year hiatus from competition. She began working her way back to competitive racing and started training in Lansing, Michigan, where she would stay with her friend and manager, Owen Anderson, when in the United States. Anderson, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in November, was able to secure her a spot at the 2023 Honolulu Marathon before he died. Limo went to Honolulu in December and, making her marathon debut, won in a time of 2:33:01 in honor of Anderson.
