Benson Kipruto
Benson Kipruto, the 2024 Tokyo Marathon champion and course record holder, and 2024 Olympic bronze medalist, is set to make his TCS New York City Marathon debut.
Kipruto won the Boston Marathon in 2021 with a time of 2:09:51. In 2022, he also conquered the Chicago Marathon, clocking 2:04:24, and the following year, Kipruto finished as the runner-up in an even-faster 2:04:02.
At the 2024 Paris Olympic Games Marathon, Kipruto won bronze in a time of 2:07:00. This year in July, he ran the Bogotá Half Marathon, finishing the course in 1:03:41.
The 34-year-old Kenyan athlete grew up in Tolilet, a village too far from his school, which forced him to run to and from the classroom, and sometimes he’d return to home for lunch—making a commute of 10 miles a day.
